PM Modi Concludes Ethiopia Visit, Leaves for Oman on Third Leg of Three-Nation Tour

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday concluded his two-day visit to Ethiopia and departed for Oman, marking the final leg of his three-nation foreign tour.

In a personal gesture of goodwill, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali personally drove PM Modi to the airport and bid him farewell. Notably, Abiy had also welcomed PM Modi upon his arrival on Tuesday, escorting him from the airport to his hotel.

During his stay, PM Modi and his Ethiopian counterpart planted a sapling in Addis Ababa under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam Initiative,' symbolizing their shared commitment to environmental sustainability.

Addressing a Joint Session of the Ethiopian Parliament, PM Modi drew parallels between India’s national song Vande Mataram and Ethiopia’s national anthem March Forward, Dear Mother Ethiopia, highlighting the common cultural reverence for the motherland. “With the call of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayaas, our emotions with our motherland reflect our shared perspective,” he said.

PM Modi also underscored Ethiopia’s historical significance, referencing the famous fossil “Lucy of Dinkinesh,” and connected it to India’s philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—the world as one family. “If our beginning was shared, then our destiny must also be shared,” he said.

As part of his visit, PM Modi laid a wreath at the Adwa Victory Monument, visited the Adwa Museum, and interacted with Ethiopian ministers and MPs. In recognition of his contributions to strengthening bilateral relations, he was conferred Ethiopia's highest civilian honour, the Great Honour Nishan of Ethiopia.

PM Modi expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and the deepening friendship between the two nations, describing the visit as “truly memorable” and noting the warmth of the Ethiopian people and the strength of India-Ethiopia ties.
