Patwaris Halt Work Against 'Biased' Anti-Corruption Raids

Patwaris Strike Over Alleged Malicious Anti-Corruption Raids

Farrukhabad, August 22, 2026 - In response to a call from the Uttar Pradesh Patwari Association, patwaris in the Sadar Tehsil of Farrukhabad district boycotted the Thana Diwas (station day) and observed a one-day pen-down strike and protest demonstration. They gathered at the Tehsil premises and submitted a memorandum to the Tehsildar Sadar, Vikram Singh Chahar, addressed to the Chief Minister.

The association demanded an immediate cessation of alleged wrongful, unfair, fake, and malicious trap actions being carried out by the Corruption Eradication Organization, Anti-Corruption, and Vigilance teams against patwaris. Led by association president Abhay Trivedi, the protesting patwaris voiced their grievances.

Patwaris Highlight Crucial Role and Grievances

They emphasized their vital role as the backbone of the revenue department, undertaking tasks such as resolving land disputes, conducting surveys, addressing encroachments, and managing various government schemes at the village level. Patwaris claim that disgruntled individuals or middlemen, motivated by personal vendettas or malice, attempt to implicate them in false cases when they refuse to comply with illegal demands or unethical practices.

Questions Raised Over Anti-Corruption Operations

The association alleged that trap actions are often initiated without sufficient examination of the complaint's veracity, the complainant's background, or the patwari's role and jurisdiction in the relevant work. This, they argue, is demoralizing dedicated employees.

Specifically, the association demanded an impartial inquiry into the alleged action against patwari Utkarshdeep in Sohawal Tehsil, Ayodhya, on August 20, 2026. They stated that considering the viral video and other evidence, it is crucial to determine whether a bribe was actually demanded or if the patwari was framed in a conspiracy.

Key Demands Presented to Chief Minister

The Patwari Association clarified that they do not condone corruption in any form. They insisted that strict action should be taken against any employee found guilty of demanding or accepting bribes, as per rules. However, they stressed that implicating innocent employees through personal vendettas, false complaints, or forced traps is unacceptable.

  • The association urged for an independent, impartial, and high-level investigation by the police department into the Ayodhya Sohawal incident.
  • They appealed for mandatory detailed verification of the complaint's truthfulness and the complainant's background before any trap action is undertaken.
  • The association also called for the issuance of clear, transparent, and accountable guidelines for trap actions by the Anti-Corruption and Vigilance departments.

Expressing concern, the association warned that if honest employees live in fear of false traps and malicious actions, they will be unable to perform their duties impartially and effectively. They demanded justice for innocent patwaris and strict action against the guilty.

Attendees

Among those present during the protest were the association's District President Sachin Mishra, Secretary Rishabh Singh, and patwaris Ashutosh Pandey, Pramod Shukla, Sony Mishra, Maheshwar Singh, Amit Pratap, Ujjwal Gupta, Anushka Kushwaha, along with other office bearers and members.
