High-Level Review Meeting on Urban Development in Chennai

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Housing and Urban Affairs of the Government of India held a high-level review meeting on the first day of its three-day official study tour of 'Chennai-Andaman & Nicobar' in Chennai.

In this significant meeting, Rajya Sabha MP Maya Narolia from Madhya Pradesh participated along with other members of the committee. During the meeting, committee members held extensive deliberations on various public welfare schemes related to rapid urbanization, strengthening urban infrastructure, affordable housing for all, and improving the quality of life for citizens.

Officials from relevant government departments gave detailed presentations on the current status of urban development, the process of plan implementation, and related challenges. The committee members offered their feedback and engaged in discussions on these presentations.

Deliberations on Urban Planning and Public Welfare Schemes

The objective of this study tour is to understand successful work methodologies from various states, make urban planning more effective, and ensure the implementation of schemes in line with public aspirations.

Rajya Sabha MP Maya Narolia stated on this occasion that significant work is being done under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make the country's cities modern, environmentally friendly, and self-reliant. She described this study tour as extremely helpful in achieving these objectives.

The meeting emphasized the need for an effective policy framework and smooth ground-level implementation to successfully execute urban development schemes.

This high-level meeting held in Chennai marked the beginning of the Parliamentary Standing Committee's study tour. In the coming days, the committee will visit the Andaman & Nicobar Islands to study their specific urban development needs and challenges.
