Pankaj Tripathi’s Mother, Hemwanti Devi, Passes Away at 89 in Bihar

Actor Pankaj Tripathi’s mother, Smt. Hemwanti Devi, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 89 on Friday, the actor’s family confirmed on Monday.

In an official statement, the family said,

“We are deeply saddened to inform you of the passing of Shri Pankaj Tripathi’s beloved mother, Smt. Hemwanti Devi, who left for her heavenly abode peacefully.”

According to the statement, she had been ailing for some time and breathed her last at the family’s ancestral home in Belsand village, Gopalganj district, Bihar, with her son by her side.

The last rites were performed on Saturday in Belsand in the presence of close family members.

Tripathi’s father, Pandit Banaras Tiwari, had passed away in 2023 at the age of 99.

In a 2024 interview with India Today, Pankaj Tripathi had spoken fondly about his mother’s simplicity and her limited understanding of his stardom.

“My mother was here recently and insisted we send her back home. She prefers her simple life,” he had said.
“The other day, she told me someone came home asking about me and wondered if I was too popular. She still doesn’t really know what I do — and I don’t see why she needs to.”

On the work front, Tripathi recently wrapped up the Benaras schedule of Mirzapur: The Movie, produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment. The film will reunite the key cast of the hit Prime Video series — Tripathi as Kaleen Bhaiya, Ali Fazal as Guddu Pandit, and Shweta Tripathi Sharma as Golu Gupta.
