O Romeo box office day 3: Shahid Kapoor film dips on Sunday, still posts Rs 30.1 cr opening weekend

The Valentine’s Day release saw solid growth on Saturday before slowing on Sunday.
Despite the dip, the film closed its opening weekend with respectable numbers.
It has outperformed Shahid Kapoor’s recent releases at the same stage.

What happened:
O Romeo earned Rs 30.15 crore in its opening weekend after dropping to single digits on Sunday.

Why it matters now:
The weekend performance sets the tone for weekday trends amid mixed reviews and limited word-of-mouth.

What changes for people:
Trade expectations shift to weekday hold, while exhibitors track occupancy in key urban centres.

Who is affected:
Producers, exhibitors, distributors, and fans of Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri.

Weekend trajectory shows early volatility

Released on February 13 to coincide with Valentine’s Day, O Romeo opened to decent numbers before showing volatility over the weekend. The film collected Rs 8.5 crore on Friday, followed by a strong 48.82% jump to Rs 12.65 crore on Saturday.

Momentum slowed on Sunday. The film earned Rs 9 crore on day 3, taking its total opening weekend collection to Rs 30.15 crore in India.

Better start than recent Shahid Kapoor films

Despite a mixed audience response, O Romeo has performed better at the box office than Shahid Kapoor’s last two releases. Deva opened with Rs 19.15 crore, while Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya collected Rs 27.1 crore in their respective opening weekends.

This positions O Romeo as Shahid’s strongest opener in recent years, even though it fell short of sustaining Saturday’s pace.

Standout moment for Triptii Dimri

For Triptii Dimri, the film marks a notable milestone. O Romeo has already become her fourth-highest all-time grosser, overtaking Dhadak 2.

However, the film’s numbers remain far below blockbuster benchmarks. Its opening weekend is nearly three times lower than Border 2, which earned Rs 121 crore in its first weekend.

Occupancy and show count snapshot

According to Sacnilk, the film had 4,699 shows running across India on Sunday. Overall occupancy stood at 18.96%, with afternoon shows recording higher footfalls.

City-wise data showed Chennai leading with 26.75% occupancy across 64 shows, followed by Jaipur at 25.50% with 165 shows. Mumbai recorded 21.25% occupancy across 780 shows, while Delhi-NCR stood at 18.25% with 1,171 shows.

Overseas, the film has earned Rs 5 crore in two days, adding incremental support to its total haul.

Reviews, cast, and production details

Ratings and reviews for O Romeo are reportedly disabled on BookMyShow following a court order, limiting public feedback visibility. The film is directed by Vishal Bhardwaj and produced by Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment.

Alongside Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri, the cast includes Nana Patekar, Avinash Tiwary, and Farida Jalal, with special appearances by Tamannaah Bhatia, Vikrant Massey, and Disha Patani.

Bottom line:
O Romeo delivered a solid but uneven opening weekend, outperforming Shahid Kapoor’s recent films while showing early signs of box office volatility.

What to watch next:
Weekday collections, word-of-mouth impact, and whether the film can stabilise after its Sunday dip.
