Medical College Plagued by Neglect; NSUI Demands Accountability

In the wake of severe mismanagement and administrative negligence at Shyam Shah Medical College and Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Rewa, the home district of Madhya Pradesh's Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Rajendra Shukla, the NSUI has raised its voice. The organization argues that if the Deputy CM cannot rectify the issues in his own constituency, expecting improvements in the state's overall healthcare system is futile.

NSUI State Vice President Ravi Parmar alleged a stark lack of basic amenities at the district's premier hospital. Critical life-saving medicines and surgical equipment are reportedly unavailable, forcing poor and helpless patients to purchase expensive alternatives from private pharmacies.

Concerns Over Private Healthcare Nexus and Expensive Diagnostics

Parmar expressed suspicion that these private pharmacies might be linked to the minister or his associates. He further highlighted that crucial diagnostic facilities like MRI, CT scan, and sonography, established at significant cost, have been non-functional for extended periods.

This forces patients to incur heavy expenses at private diagnostic centers. Additionally, a shortage of doctors and paramedical staff, coupled with their irregular attendance in OPD and emergency services, leads to patients from rural areas waiting for hours for treatment.

Call for Immediate Intervention and Resignation

Parmar urged Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav to take immediate cognizance of the matter and take strict action against the negligent officials. The NSUI has also demanded the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla.

Transfers Insufficient to Resolve Systemic Issues

Responding to reports of the government transferring the Dean of Rewa Medical College to Satna and vice-versa, the NSUI State Vice President stated that merely changing deans is unlikely to improve the situation. He believes that officials and staff are already complicit in corruption, and transfers alone will not alter the status quo.

He urged the Chief Minister to personally intervene and take concrete steps, given his personal ties to Rewa. The organization believes that the current measures are unlikely to bring about a meaningful solution.
