Weather officials said the sharp dip is linked to clear night skies and icy winds sweeping through higher elevations.

Snowfall reported in Uttarakhand’s higher reaches

In Uttarakhand, Chamoli and Pithoragarh districts experienced fresh snowfall in elevated areas. Local authorities confirmed that snow accumulation has lowered temperatures further and made mountain roads slippery, prompting advisories for cautious travel.

The IMD has underlined that more snowfall is likely in higher altitudes, while rain may affect middle and lower regions of the state over the next two days.

Dense fog disrupts life in Uttar Pradesh

In the plains, Uttar Pradesh faced severe fog conditions, with visibility dropping below 50 metres in several areas early morning. Transport officials reported delays in road traffic and train schedules, while airlines advised passengers to check flight status before departure.

Meteorologists warned that dense to very dense fog conditions may persist during early morning hours, especially in western and central UP.

Bihar sees widespread temperature drop

Cold conditions extended into Bihar, where minimum temperatures fell below 10°C in at least 15 districts. State disaster management officials noted an increase in cold-related discomfort, particularly among the elderly and those without adequate shelter.
