Noida horror: Techie drowns after standing on sinking car for 2 hours as cops, father watch helplessly; friend alleges delayed police action

What happened: A 27-year-old techie drowned after his car fell into a nearly 70-foot-deep drain in Noida’s Sector 150.

• Why it matters now: Witnesses claim the man stood on top of his partially submerged car for two hours, shouting for help, while police allegedly hesitated to enter the water.

• What changes for people: The incident raises urgent questions about emergency response, police rescue capabilities, and night-time safety on under-lit roads.

• Who is affected: The victim’s family, eyewitnesses, Noida residents, and law enforcement authorities under scrutiny.

A shocking incident unfolded in Noida’s Sector 150 early Saturday when a young tech professional drowned after his car plunged into a deep drain — despite standing on the roof of his slowly sinking vehicle for nearly two hours and repeatedly crying out for help.

Eyewitnesses, including the victim’s own father and friends, claim police personnel were present but did not immediately enter the drain to rescue him.

Car falls into 70-foot-deep drain, victim climbs onto roof

According to police, the man lost control of his car around 1 am, causing it to break the railing and fall into the massive drainage channel. The car became partially submerged, leaving the victim perched on its roof, visibly terrified, but conscious and pleading for help.

Despite the freezing water and fast current, he managed to stay afloat on the car for close to two hours.

“Police didn’t act in time,” alleges friend

A friend who was present at the scene alleged that police personnel stood on the bank and watched, instructing the victim to “stay calm” instead of attempting an immediate rescue.

“He kept screaming for help. We begged the police to jump in or provide ropes. They didn’t act fast enough,” the friend claimed.

The victim’s father, who arrived at the site shortly after being informed, watched helplessly as his son struggled in the water.

Car sinks, techie slips underwater

As the car continued to submerge, the victim lost balance and slipped into the swirling, cold water. Rescue teams eventually pulled him out, but he was declared dead.

Initial reports suggest the drain is nearly 70 feet deep, making rescue operations extremely difficult without specialised equipment.

Police deny delay, say rescue gear was inadequate

Noida Police stated that officers attempted a rescue but were unable to reach the victim safely due to the drain’s structure and depth. They maintained that divers and NDRF support were called, but the car sank before help could reach in time.

A formal inquiry is underway.

Public outrage and safety concerns

The incident has triggered outrage over:

Poor road safety barriers

Lack of lighting in the area

Insufficient emergency response training

Delayed rescue claims

Residents say such drains should not be left exposed or without stronger safety rails.
