Cabinet Denies Prosecution Sanction

The Madhya Pradesh government has refused to grant permission for the prosecution of cabinet minister Vijay Shah in the case involving alleged controversial remarks made against army officer Colonel Sofia Qureshi. The decision was made during a state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav.

The file related to this matter will now be sent to the Governor of Madhya Pradesh for final approval. This case came to light when alleged remarks made by minister Vijay Shah against Colonel Sofia Qureshi sparked controversy in political and legal circles.

SIT's Request Rejected

The Special Investigation Team (SIT), formed to probe the matter, completed its investigation and sought government permission to prosecute the minister under Section 196(1)(a) of the Indian Penal Code (BNS). Based on the SIT's findings, a request was made to the government for sanction to initiate legal proceedings against Minister Vijay Shah.

However, the cabinet decided not to provide this sanction. Following the government's decision, the file will now be presented before the Governor for further consideration.

Supreme Court Hearing on August 31

This controversial case has also reached the Supreme Court, which has issued several directives regarding the investigation and related legal procedures. In light of the government's recent cabinet decision, the next hearing in this case is scheduled for August 31, 2026.
