Ravana Effigy with Nine Heads Becomes Subject of Discussion in Damoh
Damoh | October 20, 2026. The program of Ravana Dahan (burning of Ravana's effigy) concluded at Damoh's Tehsil sports ground following the Ramlila enactment on the auspicious occasion of Vijaya Dashami. This annual event, symbolizing the victory of good over evil and righteousness over unrighteousness, featured a peculiar sight this year that garnered significant local attention.
Traditionally, Ravana has ten heads. However, the effigy prepared for burning this time only had nine heads visible. This unusual and unique construction of the effigy became a subject of curiosity for the assembled audience.
Around 10 to 11 PM, the Ravana effigy was set ablaze at the scheduled time, with a large number of local citizens witnessing the event. This year's Ravana Dahan program included a captivating Ramlila performance by artists from various regions, leaving the audience mesmerized. The artists vividly portrayed the character of Lord Rama, Ravana's arrogance, and his ultimate defeat.
Faulty Construction Sparks Curiosity
Following the Ramlila performance, as the process of Ravana Dahan commenced, the gathered crowd witnessed the scene and reiterated their resolve for the victory of good over evil. The nine-headed Ravana effigy became a focal point of special discussion among those present at the burning site.
While the organizers conducted the program in adherence to the established tradition, the effigy's flawed construction made this year's Ravana Dahan a topic of particular conversation among the general public. Various discussions were underway among the spectators. Some attributed it to an artisan's mistake, while others viewed it as a special omen. Nevertheless, the organizers proceeded with the program smoothly without giving it much undue attention.
Although the effigy's construction deviated from tradition, it undoubtedly made this year's Vijaya Dashami festival an unforgettable one for the residents of Damoh. The defining feature of this year's Ravana Dahan was the effigy's nine heads, which led to the event receiving more attention than in previous years. A large crowd had gathered at the Tehsil sports ground to witness this historic moment.
