NGOs to Gauge Society’s Pulse, Setting a New Precedent for Transparency in Public Welfare Schemes

A demand has been raised in Madhya Pradesh to conduct social evaluations and social audits of educational institutions and public welfare schemes through voluntary organizations. In this regard, a delegation from the joint consortium of voluntary organizations (U NGO) urged the Madhya Pradesh Government and the Chief Minister, through Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar, to take the initiative.

 

The seven-member delegation of the voluntary organizations' joint forum visited Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar's residence on Monday and met with him. The delegation welcomed the Assembly Speaker by presenting him with flowers, a shawl, and a memento. Detailed discussions were held regarding the role of voluntary organizations in the state, issues concerning social welfare, and the participation of NGOs in monitoring and evaluating public welfare schemes.

 

The delegation stated that to ensure the benefits of various government schemes reach the last person in society, the system of social evaluation and social audits must be made more effective. Voluntary organizations work at the grassroots level among communities and are well-acquainted with ground realities. Entrusting competent and experienced NGOs with the responsibility of social evaluation for educational institutions and welfare schemes can strengthen transparency and accountability.

 

The delegation also submitted a proposal to the Assembly Speaker to organize an 'NGO Parliament' at the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly on October 2, 2026. During the meeting, the need for a special event within the assembly premises was highlighted to discuss various issues concerning NGOs, their challenges, and their contributions to societal welfare.

 

Following discussions with the delegation, Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar assured that the 'NGO Parliament' would be held in the Assembly Auditorium. There is significant enthusiasm among voluntary organizations regarding the proposed event. Representatives noted that this will provide a common platform for various NGOs working across the state to share their recommendations on social development, education, health, public welfare, transparency, and social responsibility.

 

The delegation included U NGO President Mahendra Prasad Sharma, Group Head Satish Purohit, Secretary of Gandhi Bhavan Nyas Ankit Mishra, senior artist Raj Saini, Rekha Soni, Suhana, senior social worker Manjula Thakur, senior photojournalist Bhuvneshwar Prasad, and Rashu Soni.

 

The delegation expressed hope that the state government will take concrete steps toward utilizing the expertise of voluntary organizations in social evaluations and audits. This will not only bring to light the grassroots implementation status of government schemes but also help relay the genuine problems and feedback of beneficiaries direct
