NEW DELHI: Two-time First Lady Graça Machel wins Indira Gandhi Peace Prize; honoured for global humanitarian work

Graça Machel — the only woman in the world to have served as First Lady of two countries (Mozambique and South Africa) — has been awarded the Indira Gandhi Peace Prize 2025, announced by the Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust.

Recognised for her lifelong work in human rights, conflict resolution, women’s empowerment, and child welfare, Machel has been a leading international voice for peace and justice.

The prize also acknowledges her global advocacy for education access, especially in conflict-hit regions. International leaders hailed the award as “a tribute to a life dedicated to humanity”.
