Three More Indians Rescued from Myanmar Job Scam

Three more Indian nationals have been successfully rescued and safely brought back to India, having been ensnared by an illegal cybercrime network and online job scam operating in Myanmar's notorious Myawaddy region. Their repatriation to India, via Thailand, was achieved through the diplomatic efforts and swift security coordination of Indian missions in Myanmar and Thailand.

The Indian government maintains a firm stance against these online job rackets operating illegally in Southeast Asia, according to official data from the Ministry of External Affairs and relevant Indian missions. Since the first case of this racket emerged in July 2022, a total of 2,521 Indian nationals have been safely extracted from these cyber scam centers and brought back to their homeland through continuous rescue operations.

Rescue Operations Through International Cooperation

The Embassy of India in Myanmar issued a statement on the social media platform 'X', stating, "With the assistance provided by the authorities in Myanmar and coordination by the Embassy of India in Thailand, three Indian nationals involved in an online scam operation in Myawaddy were brought back to India yesterday via Thailand. The total number has reached 2,521 individuals from July 2022 to date. We reiterate our advisory and caution regarding such job offers."

Process of Safe Return

After being extracted from digital hostage centers, these individuals were transported across the border to Thailand. The Indian Embassy in Bangkok acted swiftly, facilitating the preparation of essential travel documents and completing legal formalities before their safe departure to India. For the past approximately four years, Indian missions in both countries have been actively assisting Indians trapped in such job scam networks, enabling the return of many individuals to their homes.
