Devastating Landslide Strikes Kurla Amidst Heavy Rains

A severe landslide in Kurla West, Mumbai, early Wednesday morning has left local residents reeling. Around 3:30 AM, a significant portion of a hill in Gaushia Chawl, Chirag Nagar, collapsed, sending a torrent of debris onto houses below.

The catastrophic event plunged the area into panic and grief, with several individuals reportedly trapped under the rubble. Screams and chaos erupted at the scene as awakened residents heard shouts of "The mountain has fallen, run!", triggering a stampede.

Local resident Ahmed Hussain Ansari initially mistook the commotion for a fight. However, upon venturing outside, he witnessed the horrifying scale of the disaster as a part of the hill gave way, rapidly engulfing surrounding homes, transforming the peaceful settlement into a scene of terror within moments.

An Unprecedented Tragedy Despite 30 Years of Experience

Sayra Bano, a resident of the area for the past 30 years, who was safely rescued from the debris, shared her harrowing experience. She stated that her entire family was asleep inside their home when the hillside collapsed, turning their house into rubble within seconds and trapping her family members.

I have never witnessed such a terrifying incident in my entire life. In just a few moments, years of hard-earned savings and our home were swallowed by the debris.

Sayra Bano has appealed to the administration for the rehabilitation of affected families in a safe location. She emphasized that living in the same area has become extremely difficult and unsafe after this incident and urged the authorities to take immediate, concrete action.

The scene was unlike anything I had ever witnessed before. The sheer horror of the event is beyond words.
