MP Police Intensifies Crackdown on Illicit Liquor Trade

Madhya Pradesh Police are relentlessly escalating their statewide campaign against illegal liquor. In a series of swift actions across various districts over the last ten days, authorities have confiscated illicit alcohol, vehicles used for transportation, and other related materials, with a total estimated value exceeding ₹1.23 crore.

Numerous individuals have been arrested in connection with these seizures, and cases have been registered against them under the Excise Act. This extensive operation underscores the police's firm commitment to dismantling illegal liquor networks and curbing the drug trade within the state. The sheer volume of seized items and the sophisticated methods employed, such as concealing liquor in secret compartments within vehicles, highlight the scale of this illicit business and the cunning tactics of those involved.

Key Seizures Across Various Districts

Significant operations have been conducted by various police units, with particularly notable incidents in Sehore district. The Kotwali police intercepted a truck on the Bilkisganj-Jhagaria road carrying illegal English liquor from Bhopal towards Gujarat. A search revealed 325 crates of English liquor hidden in two secret compartments inside the truck's body. The estimated value of this consignment and the vehicle is approximately ₹41 lakh.

In another action within the same district, Shahganj police seized 72 liters of English liquor, valued at approximately ₹44,000. Thus, the total seizure in Sehore district amounts to roughly ₹41.44 lakh.

The Baragaon police station in Tikamgarh district made a major bust, seizing 281 crates of country liquor from an Eicher truck. The estimated value of this seized liquor and vehicle is around ₹28.75 lakh, and two suspects were arrested.

Meanwhile, the Nayagaon police outpost, Jawad police station in Neemuch district, recovered 335 crates of English liquor from a Tata truck, valued at approximately ₹20.10 lakh.

In Alirajpur district, Sorwa police confiscated 306 crates of liquor with an estimated value of about ₹10.97 lakh.

Ujjain police conducted two separate operations, seizing a Scorpio vehicle along with 405 bulk liters of illicit liquor, totaling an estimated value of around ₹10 lakh. Accused individuals have been charged under the Excise Act.

In Katni district, Bilhari police recovered 20 crates of country liquor from an Ertiga car, seizing property worth approximately ₹7.98 lakh, including the car.

The Kotwali police in Vidisha district raided a house in Anupam Mega City, recovering 87 liters of illegal English liquor and two deep freezers. The total estimated value of the seized property is around ₹2.50 lakh.

In Panna district, the Kotwali police arrested two individuals and seized 93 liters and 930 milliliters of illegal English and country liquor, valued at approximately ₹1 lakh.

The Kotwali police in Bhind district also apprehended an accused based on a tip-off, seizing 54 liters of illegal English liquor and property worth approximately ₹1.10 lakh.

Continued Action Against Illicit Liquor Networks

These ongoing operations demonstrate that the Madhya Pradesh Police are unwilling to tolerate any network involved in the manufacturing, smuggling, and distribution of illicit liquor. According to statements issued by the police department, such actions will continue in the future to maintain peace and law and order in the state and protect youth from the harmful effects of addiction.

The total seized asset figure, exceeding ₹1.23 crore, also reveals the significant economic impact of this illegal liquor trade, posing a major challenge for the administration to curb.
