MP Police Seizes Over 31 Illegal Weapons, Arrests 10 in Five-Day Operation

The Cliff News | Bhopal | August 12, 2026 Madhya Pradesh Police, in a significant statewide campaign against the illegal manufacturing, smuggling, purchase, sale, and transportation of firearms, has seized more than 31 illegal weapons in the last five days. This operation has led to the arrest of 10 individuals, including those involved in the manufacturing of these weapons.

Police in the districts of Burhanpur, Khargone, Sagar, and Indore have conducted separate operations, apprehending not only caches of weapons but also materials used for their manufacture, live ammunition, magazines, and vehicles used in smuggling activities. A press release from the Police Headquarters stated that the objective of these actions is to effectively curb the illegal arms network.

These seizures over the past five days represent a crucial success in preventing the proliferation of illegal firearms within the state. The operation highlights the police's commitment to dismantling the entire chain of the illegal arms trade, from production to distribution and sale.

Hand-Made Pistols and Ammunition Recovered in Burhanpur

In Burhanpur district, acting on a tip-off on August 9, 2026, the Khaknar police conducted a major raid. Based on information about an individual possessing illegal weapons in the jungle behind Sai Baba School, a police team immediately cordoned off the area and apprehended the suspect.

During the search, police recovered 13 hand-made country-made pistols, one empty magazine, and 45 live cartridges from the accused. The total value of the seized weapons and ammunition was estimated at approximately 3.72 lakh rupees. Additionally, a motorcycle used for transporting the weapons, valued at 1.20 lakh rupees, was also seized. The total value of the seized assets is estimated at 4.72 lakh rupees. The police are conducting intensive interrogation of the accused to ascertain the source, manufacturing, and supply network of these illegal weapons.

10 Pistols Seized from Accused from Haryana-UP in Khargone

Khargone police, in the Bistaan police station area, arrested two individuals with a cache of weapons during an operation against the smuggling of illegal firearms. Police received information that two individuals were heading towards Khargone in a black Scorpio vehicle, carrying illegal pistols, en route from Sinur to Garhi-Mogargaon.

Acting swiftly on the tip-off, the police team set up a cordon. Upon searching the vehicle, 10 illegal country-made pistols were recovered from a bag hidden beneath the seats. During interrogation, the accused failed to produce any valid license or documents for possessing these weapons. The police seized the 10 illegal country-made pistols, estimated to be worth approximately 2.50 lakh rupees, and the Scorpio vehicle used in smuggling, valued at approximately 15 lakh rupees. The total value of seized assets is approximately 17.50 lakh rupees.

In preliminary questioning, the accused admitted to purchasing these illegal weapons from an individual in the Sinur area. Police are now investigating further into the role of that individual and the broader illegal arms supply network.

04 Accused Arrested, 05 Weapons Seized in Indore

The Rau police team in Indore has also achieved success in its drive against illegal weapons, arresting four accused. From the possession of the accused, four pistols, one revolver, and four live cartridges were recovered. The estimated total value of these seized weapons is approximately 1.60 lakh rupees. The police are attempting to reduce the presence of illegal firearms in the area through these arrests.

Illegal Arms Manufacturing Factory Busted in Sagar

Sagar police, in a significant breakthrough in the Cantt police station area, arrested three individuals linked to the manufacturing and supply of illegal weapons. From the site, police recovered one country-made katta, one country-made revolver, one country-made pistol, and three live cartridges.

The most notable aspect of this operation is that the police also seized various machines and tools used for manufacturing illegal weapons from the accused. These included a drill machine, screwdrivers, wrenches, hammers, iron rods, pipes, springs, cut barrels, screws, wooden blocks, spring locks, scissors, sickles, and iron sheets. This discovery has exposed an organized network involved in the illegal manufacturing of firearms.

Such actions by the Madhya Pradesh Police demonstrate a strong stance against the entire illegal arms chain, from manufacturing sites to supply, trade, and transportation, with stringent measures being implemented. The significant operations conducted over the past five days have yielded notable success in curbing the illegal arms network, marking an important step towards strengthening law and order in the state.
