Parliamentary Committee Member Visits Historic Cellular Jail

As part of a three-day study tour of Andaman and Nicobar Islands by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Housing and Urban Affairs (2025-26), Smt. Maya Narolia, a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament from Madhya Pradesh, visited the historic national monument, the Cellular Jail. During her visit, she remembered the sacrifices of the heroes of the freedom struggle and paid tribute to them.

MP Narolia undertook a comprehensive tour of the Cellular Jail complex. She closely observed the tales of sacrifice, penance, and struggle of the freedom fighter Veer Savarkar etched on the prison walls. Additionally, she reviewed memories associated with the arrival of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at the Cellular Jail. This visit is part of the committee's overall study aimed at evaluating the significant cultural and historical assets of the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago.

She highlighted that ensuring the protection and enhancement of these monuments is our collective responsibility so that future generations can also draw inspiration from them. This study tour will also provide the parliamentary committee an opportunity to understand various aspects related to the preservation and development of historical and cultural heritage, which may include promoting sustainable tourism and involving local communities.

The Cellular Jail, also known as 'Kala Pani,' holds a significant place in the history of the Indian freedom struggle.
