MP Heavy Rains: SDERF and Home Guards Rescue 98 Lives

The Cliff News | Bhopal | August 10, 2026 Amidst the severe flood situation caused by torrential rains and overflowing rivers and drains across various regions of Madhya Pradesh, teams from the State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF) and Home Guards have conducted large-scale relief and rescue operations, demonstrating immense courage and swift action. So far, 98 citizens, including pregnant women, children, women, and devotees, along with 7 cattle and 4 pets, have been safely rescued.

Mrs. Pragya Richa Srivastava, Director General of SDERF, Civil Defence, and Disaster Management, stated that emergency reports of citizens trapped in waterlogged areas and floods were received from several districts on August 10. Promptly acting on these reports, regional teams, under the direction of the Bhopal headquarters, initiated rescue efforts in various locations with utmost readiness.

Throughout the day-long operations, brave personnel rescued 98 citizens from the dangers of waterlogging and floods, providing them with essential relief materials despite adverse conditions.

Sehore: Pregnant Woman Among Several Rescued

In Sehore district's Jamni village, a 23-year-old pregnant woman, Mrs. Geeta Rajput, and three of her family members were trapped in a house due to a sudden rise in the water level of a drain. Upon receiving the information, SDERF and Home Guard teams reached the spot and, using a rubber boat with extreme caution, safely rescued the pregnant woman and her family, transporting them to an ambulance. Additionally, the SDERF team rescued 4 other citizens trapped amidst waterlogging in the Ahemedpur police station area of Sehore.

Bhopal: Flood Victims Rescued After Dam Breach

In Balampur village, under the Sukhi Sewania police station of the capital Bhopal, floodwaters rapidly entered residential areas due to the breach of a dam wall. Given the severity of the situation, the SDERF team immediately took charge and successfully rescued 19 citizens and 4 pets trapped amidst the rising water levels. In the same area, 4 other individuals trapped in a waterlogged drain were swiftly rescued and moved to safety by the Quick Response Team (QRT).

Vidisha: Labourers and Devotees Saved

In Baman Kheda village, under the Karariya police station of Vidisha district, 15 labourers were trapped due to severe waterlogging. A joint team of SDERF and Home Guards conducted a rescue operation, safely relocating all 15 labourers, including 2 women, 6 children, and 7 men. In Patharia village of Vidisha, 4 citizens (1 woman and 3 men) trapped in floodwaters, along with 7 cattle, were also successfully moved to safety by the rescue team.

Omkareshwar: Three Devotees Swept Away, Rescued by Jawans

At Abhaypuri Ghat in the famous pilgrimage site of Omkareshwar in Khandwa district, 3 devotees were suddenly swept away by the strong river current while bathing. In this emergency, brave SDERF jawans Tejpal and Balbahadur, stationed at the ghat, displayed immense courage without delay. They jumped into the turbulent river with the help of life jackets and safely rescued all three devotees from the strong current. The swift alertness and bravery of these jawans saved three precious lives.

Relief Efforts in Rajgarh and Agar Malwa

In Badhahedi village, under the Khilchipur police station of Rajgarh district, 15 people who had taken refuge on the roof of a temple, surrounded by water, were safely rescued by the SDERF/HG team. Similarly, upon receiving reports of widespread waterlogging in the Soyat police station area of Agar Malwa district, SDERF, Home Guards, and the Disaster Relief Team (DRC) took charge. They moved approximately 30 to 40 citizens to safe locations, where relief and rescue operations are continuing.

Vigilance and 24x7 Monitoring Continue

The SDERF headquarters in Bhopal is maintaining 24x7 continuous monitoring of the situation in all sensitive and waterlogged districts of the state. Quick Response Teams (QRTs), disaster relief vehicles, boats, and modern equipment have been kept on high alert at all district headquarters to ensure immediate assistance in any emergency. Relief and rescue operations to combat the current rain and flood situation in the state are proceeding on a war footing.
