MP Gears Up for Uniform Civil Code

The Madhya Pradesh government is pushing to implement a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) by Diwali, furthering the BJP's core ideological goal. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has directed the home department to prepare a draft bill within six months.

UCC Models in Other States

Uttarakhand became the first state to implement the UCC in 2025. Key provisions include:

  • Penalties for non-compliance.

Gujarat followed in March 2026 with a UCC addressing:

  • Equal inheritance rights for sons and daughters.
  • Compulsory registration of live-in relationships.
