Opposition Disruption Hinders Parliamentary Function

Satna, August 13, 2026: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Satna MP, Ganesh Singh, has launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding the uproar during the monsoon session of Parliament. He stated that the role of the Leader of the Opposition is extremely important and that national interest should be paramount, placed above personal and party interests, which is an integral part of parliamentary tradition.

In a statement, MP Ganesh Singh said that in Indian parliamentary democracy, the responsibility of the Leader of the Opposition is not merely to oppose the government, but also to effectively raise pressing issues concerning the public within the House. He alleged that the continuous disruption by the opposition during the monsoon parliamentary session severely impacted the proceedings of the House.

Questioning Parliamentary Dignity

Raising a serious question in this context, Ganesh Singh asked how many of the 540 MPs got the opportunity to present their views in the House. He questioned whether it is not the responsibility of the Leader of the Opposition to ensure justice for MPs when they are unable to present their region's problems, public expectations, and nationally important issues in Parliament.

He expressed concern that while the opposition constantly invokes democracy and the constitution, the inability of elected representatives to present their views in Parliament is also a serious cause for concern for the democratic system. MP Singh alleged that by disrupting the House's proceedings, the opposition has not only affected the government but also the voice of millions of voters who sent their representatives to Parliament.

Role of the Opposition and Current Scenario

Ganesh Singh further stated that the fundamental responsibility of the opposition is to seek accountability from the government, question its policies, and facilitate meaningful discussion on issues of public interest. If the opposition, after demanding a debate, retreats from it or continuously disrupts the House proceedings, it is entirely contrary to the spirit of parliamentary democracy.

Commenting on the current situation, he remarked that in the past, opposition leaders have played a crucial role in holding the government accountable. Their role has been to highlight the government's shortcomings, encourage debates on public interest issues, and hold the ruling party accountable. Targeting Rahul Gandhi, he said that the current situation appears to be that “instead of showing the mirror to the government, the opposition leader is smudging the mirror itself.”

Ganesh Singh emphasized that Parliament is one of the supreme democratic institutions of the country. The debates and discussions that take place here are not just for the ruling party or the opposition, but are extremely important for the entire nation. He urged Rahul Gandhi to introspect.
