Urgent Appeal for Ghat Renovation Amidst Growing Concerns

The Cliff News | Fatehgarh | July 26, 2026 – The Mother Ganga Seva Samiti organized its weekly cleanliness and public awareness campaign at Fatehgarh's Barghadiya Ghat today. During the event, committee members and officials voiced serious concerns about the dilapidated condition of the ghat and the path leading to it.

The committee members highlighted that Barghadiya Ghat is currently the only accessible bathing spot for residents of Fatehgarh. Both Kila Ghat and Rani Ghat have been closed by the army citing security reasons. Consequently, the crumbling state of Barghadiya Ghat poses a significant problem for local residents who rely on it for religious rituals and daily bathing.

The current condition of the ghat is not only inconvenient but also a safety hazard, especially given the large number of devotees who visit. The committee has made an urgent demand for improvements to the ghat, particularly in anticipation of the holy month of Shravan Maas.

Demands for Immediate Action and Improved Accessibility

In light of the upcoming Shravan Maas, the committee has appealed to the District Magistrate to immediately initiate construction work for a safe and accessible bathing route for devotees, taking public sentiment into account. The committee believes that improving the ghat's condition during this sensitive period is crucial for devotees to perform their religious rites without hindrance.

The month of Shravan, dedicated to Lord Shiva, holds immense significance for Ganga bathing, with devotees flocking to holy rivers. The current disarray at Barghadiya Ghat could hurt the sentiments of devotees and disrupt their convenience. Therefore, the renovation of the ghat and the construction of a safe pathway are imperative in the public interest.

Increased Pressure on Barghadiya Ghat Necessitates Urgent Repairs

In a memorandum submitted to the District Magistrate, committee officials emphasized that the pressure on Barghadiya Ghat has increased significantly after the army's decision to close other ghats. Neglecting this ghat could have severe repercussions for the local community.

They urged the administration to not only commence immediate repairs of the ghat but also to pave and secure the unpaved and dilapidated access road. This would prevent devotees from facing issues like mud and waterlogging during the monsoon season. The improvement of this route would also facilitate daily commutes.

Community Participation Underscores the Urgency of the Issue

Several prominent members of the community, including Alok Chaturvedi, Jai Om, Ashish Mishra, Sirmit Katiyar, Neetu Mishra, Kishan Batham, Rajendra Batham, and Rajiv Verma, actively participated in the weekly campaign. They contributed to cleaning the area around the ghat and appealed to the local administration to address this critical issue promptly.

The participation of these citizens underscored the gravity of the problem, highlighting that it is not merely a concern of the committee but a matter of worry for the entire Fatehgarh community. All attendees chanted slogans together, demanding swift action from the administration.
