Mohit Sharma Memorial Trust Confirms ‘Dhurandhar’ Is Not Based on Major Mohit Sharma

Speculation around Aditya Dhar’s upcoming action thriller Dhurandhar has intensified since the release of its trailer, which revealed that the film is “inspired by incredible true events.” Many viewers began drawing parallels between the film’s narrative and real-life Indian intelligence and military operations.

Trust Issues Clarification

After online speculation linked the film to the heroic story of Late Major Mohit Sharma, the Mohit Sharma Memorial Trust reposted director Aditya Dhar’s official clarification.
The Trust expressed gratitude and confirmed publicly that Dhurandhar does not depict Major Mohit Sharma’s life or operations.

Why the Speculation Began

The trailer’s tone, undercover sequences, and gritty portrayal of cross-border espionage led many to assume that the film was referencing Major Mohit Sharma’s legendary covert mission.
Sharma had famously infiltrated the Hizbul Mujahideen in the early 2000s under the alias Iftikhar Bhatt—one of India’s most daring undercover operations.

Character Parallels Noted by Netizens

Social media users pointed out similarities between Dhurandhar’s characters and real historical figures:

  • R. Madhavan’s Ajay Sanyal → resembles Ajit Doval, former IB officer and current NSA

  • Akshaye Khanna’s Rehman Dakait → parallels Rehman Dakait, the Karachi ganglord

  • Sanjay Dutt’s SP Chaudhary Aslam → appears inspired by Chaudhry Aslam Khan, the celebrated Karachi police officer

  • Arjun Rampal’s Major Iqbal (ISI) → resembles Ilyas Kashmiri, a notorious militant commander

These resemblances fueled the assumption that Ranveer Singh—whose character name is intentionally withheld—was portraying Major Mohit Sharma.

Official Word: Dhurandhar Is Not About Major Mohit

Following the clarification from both Aditya Dhar and the Trust, it is now confirmed that the film draws inspiration from multiple events and figures, but does not narrate Major Mohit Sharma’s story.
