District Magistrate Inspects Flood-Affected Chunar Area

Mirzapur District Magistrate Pawan Kumar Gangwar on Friday conducted an extensive inspection of flood-affected areas in the Chunar region. The inspection was prompted by the rising water levels of the Ganges River, which has caused significant flooding. During his visit, he interacted with local residents, listened to their concerns, and issued strict directives to relevant officials for swift and effective relief and rescue operations.

The District Magistrate's first stop was Mohalla Jagdishpur alias Tammalganj within the Municipal Council area, where residents are facing severe difficulties in commuting due to the floods. He also reviewed the health camp set up in the locality, where Dr. Dharmesh Yadav informed him that 32 individuals had been examined and provided with necessary treatment and medicines. The DM inquired about the availability of medicines and other facilities for patients, urging vigilance against water-borne diseases and the implementation of precautionary measures.

Addressing Residents' Concerns and Infrastructure Development

During the inspection of the affected areas, local representatives including Ward Members Ashok Pal, Pooja Pal, Ashok Srivastava, and Budhram Chauhan, along with other residents, presented their grievances to the District Magistrate. They highlighted that the main route to the Tehsil, hospital, and market from Tammalganj is frequently blocked by the rising river levels, forcing them to travel by boat and causing considerable hardship.

The residents also informed the District Magistrate about the ongoing process of constructing a bridge at the Rapat (ford). The DM assured them that the bridge construction would be prioritized and commence once the budget is approved by the government. He stated that this bridge would not only facilitate year-round transportation but also boost the region's economic and social development.

Ensuring Relief and Rehabilitation for Flood Victims

Subsequently, the District Magistrate visited the flood-affected area in Samaspur village. He directed the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Chunar, Anegh Singh, to ensure no citizen faces any problems. He emphasized that any emerging issues should be immediately reported, and all possible assistance should be provided to flood victims. He also ascertained the presence of staff at flood outposts and the availability of relief materials.

The District Magistrate sternly instructed officials present to ensure that relief materials reach every affected family with complete transparency. He directed them to maintain constant vigilance over the affected areas and promptly resolve any emerging problems. He assured the citizens that the district administration stands firmly with them during this crisis. To ensure no needy person is deprived of aid, officials were instructed to survey each household and identify their genuine needs.

Arrangements for Livestock and Basic Facilities

The District Magistrate also stressed the urgent need for adequate arrangements of green and dry fodder for livestock in flood-affected villages, along with ensuring the availability of necessary vaccines. He ordered proper lighting arrangements at flood outposts and relief camps during the night and appropriate measures for the safety of boats to prevent any inconvenience to the villagers. He also called for special measures to maintain drinking water supply and sanitation in affected areas to prevent the spread of diseases.

The District Magistrate warned officials that any laxity or negligence in relief and rescue operations in the flood-affected areas would not be tolerated. He stressed the importance of maintaining coordination and immediate information exchange among all officials present.

Safety Assessment and Power Supply Improvement Directives

During the inspection, the District Magistrate's attention was drawn to a critical safety concern: the dilapidated condition of hanging high-tension (HT) power lines. This posed an immediate accident risk, especially with the floodwaters. In response, he immediately contacted the Executive Engineer of the Electricity Department, directing them to repair the worn-out wires to prevent any untoward incidents.

He instructed electricity department officials to conduct an immediate inspection and repair of all such dilapidated wires passing over flood-affected or populated areas. Present during the inspection were Sub-Divisional Magistrate Chunar Anegh Singh, Tehsildar, and other relevant officials. The District Magistrate expected them to maintain coordination and ensure the swift exchange of information.
