Cyber Fraud Case in Mirzapur: Onion Trader Scammed, Police Recovers Funds
In a significant achievement for law enforcement in the Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh, the police have successfully recovered the entire amount of ₹6.42 lakh that was defrauded from an onion trader. This success was attributed to the swift and efficient action taken by the Cyber Cell team of the Ahraura Police Station, which ensured justice for the victim.
The Incident and Complaint
According to reports, Vinod Kumar, a vegetable trader residing in Koiran Bazaar under the Ahraura police station area, filed a complaint with the Cyber Cell on August 27, 2026. He reported that another trader had contacted him via phone, claiming to be selling a shipment of onions.
Trusting the offer, Vinod Kumar transferred a sum of ₹6.42 lakh to the other trader's account through UPI. The scammer then informed the victim that the onions had been dispatched via truck. However, when the victim neither received the onions nor any satisfactory explanation, he began demanding his money back.
Thug's Evasion and Victim's Realization
The scammer started making excuses and eventually refused to return the money. Upon realizing he had been defrauded, Vinod Kumar filed his complaint on the online cyber portal.
Police Action and Successful Recovery
Upon receiving information about the cyber fraud, the Cyber Cell team of the Ahraura Police Station immediately launched an investigation. Under the guidance of Mirzapur Superintendent of Police Aparna Rajat Kaushik and the leadership of the Superintendent of Police Operations and Circle Officer Operations, the cyber police team acted proactively.
During the investigation, the team successfully managed to recover the entire defrauded amount of ₹6.42 lakh and credited it back to the victim, Vinod Kumar's account.
Victim's Gratitude and Cyber Awareness
Overjoyed and relieved to have his money returned, Vinod Kumar visited the local police station to express his sincere appreciation and gratitude to the Mirzapur police officials and the members of the Cyber Crime Team, Ahraura Police Station.
On this occasion, the victim was also educated by the Cyber Cell on methods to avoid future cyber fraud as part of a cyber awareness campaign. Vinod Kumar assured that he would also spread awareness among others to be cautious of cyber scams.
