Meghalaya’s Akash Choudhary smashes fastest fifty in first-class cricket history

Surat, Nov 10: Meghalaya’s Akash Choudhary created history on Sunday by scoring the fastest fifty ever in first-class cricket, reaching the milestone in just 11 balls during a Ranji Trophy Plate Group match against Arunachal Pradesh.

The 25-year-old all-rounder surpassed the previous record held by England’s Wayne White, who scored a 12-ball half-century for Leicestershire against Essex in 2012.

Coming in at No. 8, Choudhary unleashed a stunning assault, smashing eight sixes, including six in one over off bowler Limar Dabi. He remained unbeaten on 50 off 14 deliveries, prompting Meghalaya to declare at 628 for six.

With this feat, Choudhary became the third cricketer in first-class history to hit six sixes in an over, joining the elite company of Ravi Shastri and Garry Sobers. He is also the first-ever player to hit eight consecutive sixes in first-class cricket.
