In a shocking incident, 68-year-old businessman Suresh Chand Agarwal, owner of the prominent Indian beedi brand Dinesh Bidi, was allegedly shot dead by his son before the latter died by suicide at their residence in Vrindavan on Friday night.
According to police, the tragedy unfolded after Naresh Kumar Agarwal (45) had an argument with his father. In a fit of rage, Naresh allegedly fired at Suresh, hitting him near the shoulder. Moments later, he reportedly turned the weapon on himself.
Family members rushed to the room after hearing gunshots and found both lying in a pool of blood. They were taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead.
Preliminary investigation:
Police officials said the incident may have stemmed from a business or personal dispute. Circle Officer (Sadar) Sandeep Kumar Singh told Hindustan Times, “Business disputes were initially assigned as the reason behind the gruesome killing. The exact cause will be known only after investigation.”
Reports suggest Suresh had objected to Naresh’s drinking habits, which may have triggered the altercation. No formal complaint has been filed by the family.
Agarwal’s family is well known in Mathura and runs a major beedi manufacturing business employing workers mainly from Kolkata. The company is named after Suresh’s eldest son, Dinesh, who primarily manages operations from there.
