Major Operation by Mandsaur Police: 465 kg Poppy Straw and Assets Worth ₹21 Lakh Seized

The Madhya Pradesh Police have intensified their campaign against illegal narcotics across the state, executing a major operation in the Mandsaur district. The Afzalpur Police Station recovered 465 kilograms of poppy straw from a Scorpio vehicle, with an estimated value of ₹9.3 lakh.

In addition to the contraband, police also seized the vehicle, valued at approximately ₹12 lakh. This brings the total value of seized assets to over ₹21.3 lakh. A case has been registered against unknown smugglers under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and efforts are underway to apprehend the absconding culprits.

The operation was conducted under the direction of Mandsaur Superintendent of Police, Mr. Vinod Kumar Meena, and the guidance of Additional Superintendent of Police, Mr. Tersingh Baghel. The incident occurred on the night of July 24th, when the Afzalpur Police were conducting routine checks of suspicious vehicles during their patrol.

Vehicle Loaded with Poppy Straw Confiscated

Upon noticing the police, the vehicle's driver attempted to flee at high speed. However, after a short pursuit, the driver managed to abandon the vehicle and escape into the darkness. A search of the abandoned Scorpio revealed 465 kilograms of poppy straw packed in 21 sacks.

Poppy straw, an initial form of opium, is widely used in drug trafficking. Police promptly seized this illegal consignment. The confiscated poppy straw is valued at approximately ₹9.3 lakh, while the vehicle is worth around ₹12 lakh.

Search for Smugglers Underway

The seized material and vehicle were brought to the police station, and a case was registered under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act. Investigations are currently ongoing.

Police have formed special teams and are actively working to identify and arrest the absconding individuals. Authorities suspect that this consignment may be part of a larger smuggling network, and investigations are proceeding in that direction.

The Madhya Pradesh Police have reiterated their 'zero tolerance' policy towards crimes related to illegal narcotics within the state. Anyone involved in smuggling, transportation, storage, or sale will face stringent legal action. The commitment to continue such operations in the future has been affirmed.
