Mandaikini River Levels Surge Again in Chitrakoot, Flood Threat Returns

Dharamnagri Chitrakoot experienced a temporary respite as the Mandaikini River's water level, which had previously breached all records by reaching approximately eight and a half meters above the danger mark, receded below it on Sunday evening. Residents had begun the arduous task of clearing debris from their homes.

However, this relief proved short-lived. Continuous rainfall since Monday night has caused the Mandaikini River's water level to cross the danger mark once again. The administration has issued an immediate warning for people to move to safe locations and has blocked traffic towards Ramghat.

The renewed surge of the river due to the rains has heightened the anxieties of residents in flood-affected areas. The region around Ramghat was already severely impacted by previous flooding, and this latest rise in water levels has exacerbated the situation. Efforts to clear debris and clean the affected areas were underway but have been hampered by the new water levels.

Minister and MP Assess Flood Situation

To assess the severity of the flood situation, Chitrakoot's प्रभारी मंत्री (in-charge minister) Nandgopal Gupta Nandi visited the affected areas on Monday. He surveyed the current conditions on-site and stated that a detailed survey of the flood damage is being conducted. He assured that all possible assistance would be provided to eligible individuals according to government regulations.

Meanwhile, local MP Krishna Devi Patel also visited the flood-affected regions. She met with shopkeepers at Ramghat to understand their problems and inspected the sunken approach road of the Mandaikini bridge in Karvi.

Debris Still Piles Up on Roads and Streets

The severe flood that occurred two days prior caused widespread devastation in Chitrakoot town. Even after the floodwaters receded, its impact is clearly visible on the town's roads and streets. Despite continuous cleaning operations for two days, large amounts of debris remain accumulated in many places.

The situation in the flood-affected areas remains dire, with movement for residents becoming difficult due to the debris-filled streets. Many residents are confined to their homes. Officials from Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh are jointly engaged in relief and rescue operations day and night. Various teams are continuously working to remove debris and carry out cleaning.
