Manchester Synagogue Attack Kills Two, Suspect Shot by Police

Manchester, UK: Two people were killed in a terror attack outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue on Wednesday, which coincided with Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.

The victims have been identified as Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66. Greater Manchester Police expressed their “deepest sympathies” to the families. Specially trained family liaison officers are providing support and keeping them updated on the investigation, according to Detective Chief Superintendent Lewis Hughes.

“Whilst there are processes which must be followed, we commit to being mindful of cultural preferences and sensitivities and to ensuring that these men and their loved ones’ wishes are respected,” Hughes added.

Attack Details

The assailant, reported to be Jihad al-Shamie, first rammed a car into people outside the synagogue and then went on a stabbing spree. Police shot the suspect at the scene.

The British government has classified the incident as a terrorist attack, highlighting the deliberate targeting of worshippers on a sacred day.
