Intensified Checking Campaign Targets Power Pilferage

In an effort to curb electricity theft, the Enforcement Team II conducted a thorough checking campaign on Friday in the villages of Narayan Nagla and Rajpura, located within the Bahedi police station area of Bareilly. This operation resulted in the apprehension of seven consumers who were caught illegally tapping electricity.

The campaign was spearheaded by Sub-Inspector Sahab Singh, accompanied by Assistant Engineer Veeru Singh and other personnel from the enforcement team. Acting on intelligence received, they meticulously inspected electricity connections.

Legal Action Initiated Against Offenders

All seven consumers found to be utilizing electricity unauthorizedly through various means have been booked under Section 135 of the Indian Electricity Act. Legal proceedings have been initiated against them by the department.

Irregularities and Direct Lines Uncovered

During the investigation, Pramod Kumar from Narayan Nagla was found to have an additional load of seven kilowatts in his connection, significantly exceeding the sanctioned load. Mohammad Hassan's meter showed a reading of 21,103, while his bill only reflected 9,525, indicating a substantial discrepancy.

Similarly, Mohammad Haroon's meter registered a stored reading of 13,382. Nafees Ahmed was confirmed to be stealing electricity directly via a three-kilowatt line, causing considerable revenue loss to the department. Seema's connection revealed a bypassed meter, allowing for manipulation of electricity consumption readings.

Power Theft Incidents Also Reported in Rajpura

Irregularities were also identified during the checking in village Rajpura. Here, Ikhtiyar Ahmed was found to be directly bypassing three kilowatts of electricity, and Sabdar Khan was bypassing two kilowatts. These findings highlight the diverse methods being employed for power theft.

“Strict action will be ensured in all cases as per rules,” stated Sahab Singh, the in-charge of the enforcement team.

Other police personnel and members of the enforcement team were also present during the operation. The department has reiterated its commitment to continuing such intensive checking campaigns against electricity theft in the future to prevent transmission losses and ensure accurate billing for consumers.
