Mahooba: Dozens of Homes Reduced to Rubble by 72 Hours of Torrential Rain in Ajnar

Torrential Downpour Devastates Ajnar

The Ajnar region of Mahooba district, Uttar Pradesh, has been thrown into chaos by 72 consecutive hours of relentless torrential rain. The severe downpour has weakened the foundations of numerous mud-brick houses in rural areas, leading to the collapse of dozens of homes, cattle sheds, and boundary walls.

This natural disaster has rendered many families homeless, with their entire household belongings buried under debris. Fortunately, there have been no reports of any loss of life so far. Among the affected villagers are Ramdas Rajput, whose straw-roofed house collapsed, Balchandra Rajput and Raju Thakur, whose cattle sheds were damaged, Raju Kushwaha, whose house caved in, Shankar Kushwaha, whose house wall fell, Rambai Kushwaha, whose household structure was impacted, and Vinod Shriwas and Pappu Raikwar, whose homes succumbed to the rain. Additionally, several other mud-brick structures in the area are reported to be damaged, exacerbating the villagers' plight.

Structural Damage and Displacement Crisis

The constant rainfall caused waterlogging in the mud-brick houses, leading to dampness in the walls and weakening of their foundations. The debris from the collapsed houses has filled the surrounding areas, forcing affected families to relocate to safer places with their belongings and children. Families whose homes have been completely or partially destroyed now face a severe crisis of shelter and meeting their daily needs.

Villagers have expressed concern that if the rains continue unabated, other dilapidated and mud-brick houses in the area are also at risk. They have urged the local administration to immediately dispatch a revenue team to conduct a detailed survey of the damage in the affected villages. They also appealed for financial assistance and essential relief materials to be provided to eligible victim families as per government regulations.

Hope for Relief and Safety from Administration

The villagers have also requested the administration to arrange temporary safe housing for families whose homes are no longer habitable. Considering the continuous rainfall, they have urged the administration to alert families residing in dilapidated houses and make arrangements to move them to safer locations if necessary.

These incidents of house collapses have created an atmosphere of fear among the villagers. Their hopes are now pinned on the administration to assess the damage and expedite relief efforts to the affected families as soon as possible.
