Mahoba: Torrential Rains Collapse Poor Family's Home, Leaving Them Homeless

Poor Family Displaced by Heavy Rainfall in Mahoba

Mahoba | August 26, 2026 | In the village of Maheva, within the Jaitpur development block of Mahoba district, continuous torrential rains have stripped a poor family of their shelter. The mud-brick house belonging to Thakurdas Pal, a resident of Maheva village, suddenly collapsed this afternoon due to the incessant downpour.

Loss of Belongings, No Casualties

Fortunately, there were no human casualties in the incident. However, the entire household belongings of the family were buried and destroyed under the debris. Information suggests that Thakurdas Pal's house was in a dilapidated condition, and its walls had become damp due to the rain. Children were inside the house when it fell; they managed to escape by running outside upon hearing the commotion, averting a major tragedy.

Despite the escape, essential items like grains, clothes, utensils, and other domestic necessities stored in the house were completely destroyed under the rubble.

Family Seeks Aid, Shelters with Neighbors

The affected individual, Thakurdas Pal, stated that he belongs to an extremely impoverished family and earns a livelihood through labor. The collapse of his house has created a severe crisis for their living and sustenance. Currently, his family is taking refuge in their neighbors' homes.

Thakurdas Pal has appealed to the District Administration of Mahoba to provide them with a house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural). He has also requested immediate financial assistance from the disaster relief fund to help them improve their situation.

Villagers Express Outrage, Demand Action on Dilapidated Homes

The incident has sparked considerable anger among the village head and local residents. Villagers have pointed out that many other mud houses in the village are also in a dilapidated state and are at risk of collapsing at any moment. They have urged the administration to identify such poor and needy families and prioritize them for housing schemes.

Numerous villagers, including Chhatrapal Singh Rajput, Rajendra Rawat, Mohit Yadav, Munna Lal Sen, and Ganpat Kushwaha, were present at the scene. They have appealed to the Tehsil administration and the Lekhpal (revenue official) to immediately inspect the site and submit a report to the government, ensuring swift relief for the affected family.
