Lack of Basic Facilities Leads to Difficult Funeral in Mahoba

Mahoba, Uttar Pradesh - September 25, 2026 - The scarcity of basic amenities in Mahoba district has once again surfaced in a distressing manner. Following the death of a cancer patient in the village of Maheba, under the Jaitpur development block, the funeral rites were conducted under extremely challenging circumstances due to continuous rain and the absence of a permanent shed at the cremation ground.

The deceased, identified as Manoj Kumar, passed away recently. The incessant rainfall prevented his family from performing the last rites for two days, forcing them to keep his body at home due to the lack of any safe arrangements at the cremation site.

On Friday, as the rain showed no signs of stopping, local villagers and the bereaved family joined hands to erect a temporary shelter using poles and a tarpaulin. It was under this makeshift structure that Manoj Kumar was cremated. This scene starkly highlighted the disarray and administrative apathy in the village, where people are denied even fundamental facilities for the funeral of their loved ones.

Devastated Cremation Ground Access Path Fuels Villager Anger

Residents of village Maheba have expressed deep resentment over the dilapidated condition of the path leading to the cremation ground. According to the villagers, the route is completely marshy and muddy, making it an arduous task even to carry the funeral bier.

The narrow and poorly maintained path frequently obstructs funeral processions, causing additional suffering to the grieving families. Villagers have alleged that despite submitting multiple written complaints to administrative officials and local representatives, including former village heads Mohan, Satish, and Babulal, regarding the construction of a permanent shed at the cremation ground and road improvements, no effective and lasting solution has been found.

Elected Representatives Accused of Neglect

An incident of this nature during the rains has ignited deep anger among the local population towards the governance and administration. Villagers state that this event demonstrates how basic facilities are being ignored.

They have urged the government to immediately undertake the permanent construction of the 'Moksha Dham' (cremation ground) in the village and repair the road leading to it. They believe this will prevent any other family from facing such a tragic situation in the future. Currently, the dire condition of the village clearly exemplifies the lack of essential civic amenities.
