Farmers Queue for Fertilizer Amidst Shortage
Mahoba | October 3, 2026
A large crowd of farmers gathered at the Ajner Cooperative Society Center in Mahoba district on Saturday, driven by the urgent need for fertilizer for the Rabi season sowing. Farmers arrived in significant numbers from early morning, but limited availability meant they had to wait for hours to secure tokens.
Limited Stock Creates Disappointment
The society's secretary, Bhoop Kishore, stated that the center currently has a stock of 460 bags of fertilizer. Following regulations, farmers with larger landholdings are allocated three bags, while small farmers receive one bag. So far, 400 tokens have been distributed. This limited stock is only sufficient to meet the needs of approximately 150 farmers, leaving the rest disheartened.
Farmers Left Empty-Handed
The scarcity of fertilizer has led to widespread dissatisfaction among the farmers. Farmer Brijgopal Singh, whose token number was 203, was unable to get fertilizer on Saturday. Shivdayal and several other farmers were forced to return home empty-handed despite standing in queues all day.
Call for Adequate Supply
Society Secretary Bhoop Kishore assured that farmers who could not receive fertilizer on Saturday would be provided with it based on their existing coupons when the next consignment arrives. Meanwhile, local farmers have urged the district administration to ensure an adequate supply of fertilizer at the Ajner center. This, they emphasized, is crucial to ensure all farmers receive fertilizer on time and prevent disruption to the Rabi season sowing.
