Mahesh Babu’s rapidly expanding multiplex chain, AMB Cinemas, is set to enter a new phase of growth with the launch of its Bengaluru property — AMB Cinemas Kapali — on December 16. The actor-entrepreneur, who entered the exhibition business in 2019 in partnership with Asian Cinemas, is expected to attend the grand opening.
The Bengaluru expansion is particularly significant as it introduces South India’s first Dolby Cinema, a premium large-format experience combining Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and a specially engineered theatre design. Until now, India had only one Dolby Cinema screen, located in Pune. With AMB Kapali, the country gets its second installation and its first in the southern region.
A Landmark Location With Cutting-Edge Tech
The new multiplex is situated on the premises of the iconic Kapali Theatre, a location cherished by generations of Bengaluru moviegoers. AMB Cinemas Kapali will feature nine state-of-the-art screens, including a massive 60-foot-wide Dolby Cinema screen, the second-largest of its kind in India. The format is designed to rival IMAX and other premium experiences, offering unmatched picture clarity, dynamic contrast, and immersive sound.
A promotional video teaser featuring Bhagyashri’s radiant smile was also shared by the AMB team, adding a touch of nostalgia and charm ahead of the launch.
Dolby’s Expanding Footprint in India
Dolby Laboratories had earlier announced plans to roll out six Dolby Cinema screens across the country. Following Pune’s City Pride and now AMB Cinemas Bengaluru, the upcoming locations include:
-
Allu Cineplex, Hyderabad
-
LA Cinema, Trichy
-
EVM Cinemas, Kochi
-
G Cineplex, Ulikkal
AMB Kapali is among the flagship additions in this series.
Growth Continues in Hyderabad
Mahesh Babu and Asian Cinemas also recently unveiled AMB Classic, their second multiplex in Hyderabad. Located at RTC X Roads, this seven-screen venue further strengthens AMB’s footprint in the city where the brand first began with the highly successful AMB Cinemas in Gachibowli.
With Bengaluru’s Dolby Cinema launch, the AMB brand continues to position itself among India’s most technologically advanced cinema chains, offering premium moviegoing experiences for audiences across the region.
