Innovative Initiative to Improve Ration Access in Tribal Areas

The Madhya Pradesh government has launched an innovative scheme, 'Mukhyamantri Ration Aapke Gram', to facilitate access to rations for families residing in the state's tribal regions. This initiative ensures that ration supplies will now be available within their own villages, eliminating the need for long journeys to fair-price shops.

The scheme has been implemented across 89 Scheduled Tribe development blocks in 20 districts. It is expected to directly benefit approximately 7 lakh 13 thousand families. Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Protection Minister Govind Singh Rajput highlighted that the program aims not only to deliver rations but also to provide self-employment opportunities for the youth in these tribal areas.

Addressing Challenges of Remote Locations

This initiative is particularly crucial for remote and inaccessible areas where fair-price shops are located far from beneficiary villages. Previously, families incurred significant expenses and lost valuable work time traveling to collect their rations. The 'Mukhyamantri Ration Aapke Gram' scheme offers a localized and effective solution to these persistent problems.

Transforming the Ration Distribution System

To operationalize the scheme, a total of 472 sectors have been established in Madhya Pradesh. The responsibility of delivering ration supplies to the dependent villages within these sectors has been entrusted to local entities. Selected beneficiaries from the Scheduled Tribe community have been provided with vehicles through government assistance.

These beneficiaries are purchasing vehicles with the aid of bank loans to facilitate the delivery of rations to their villages, thereby strengthening the distribution network. Minister Govind Singh Rajput emphasized the scheme's focus on empowering local tribal youth.

Empowering Local Youth with Economic Opportunities

The government is providing margin money of ₹2 to ₹3 lakh per beneficiary to assist selected beneficiaries in purchasing vehicles. This financial support enables tribal youth to actively participate in the implementation of government schemes while simultaneously establishing a sustainable source of self-employment. This move is proving to be a significant step towards their economic self-reliance.

Creating New Employment Avenues and Economic Empowerment

Under the scheme, vehicle operators are offered regular income opportunities in exchange for their services. A monthly rental of ₹24,000 has been set for vehicles with a one-ton capacity and ₹31,000 for those with a two-ton capacity. This financial incentive encourages local youth to engage with the transportation system and earn a steady income.

This not only fortifies the ration distribution system but also promotes local employment generation in tribal regions. The 'Mukhyamantri Ration Aapke Gram' scheme is viewed as an innovative experiment that combines convenience and self-reliance in tribal areas.
