Madhya Pradesh Police Intensify Crackdown on Illegal Gambling and Betting

Madhya Pradesh Police have taken stringent action against the illegal trade of gambling and betting across the state, seizing over ₹1.10 crore in cash and assets in the month of August. During this period, over 100 accused individuals were arrested.

The police aim to curb such illegal businesses and prevent the resulting economic and social damage. A statement issued by the state police's Public Relations Cell stated that gambling dens and betting activities have been brought under control through intelligence networks, vigilance, and field operations.

The seized assets include not only cash but also mobile phones, vehicles, laptops, ATM cards, Wi-Fi modems, and other equipment. Notable actions were taken in various districts by the police, resulting in the seizure of substantial illegal assets:

  • Chhindwara: Amarwada Police arrested 15 individuals gambling in the Bichhua village forest. Approximately ₹60 lakh worth of assets were seized, including ₹1.53 lakh in cash, 13 mobile phones, and 05 vehicles.
  • Balaghat: Police at Navegaon Police Station registered cases against 14 accused in a major operation against inter-state gamblers. Assets worth approximately ₹38 lakh were seized, including ₹1.50 lakh in cash, 14 Android mobile phones, and 03 four-wheeler vehicles.
  • Narmadapuram: Kotwali Police took action against an illegal gambling den in Kalika Nagar, registering cases against 09 accused and seizing assets worth approximately ₹2.40 lakh.
  • Vidisha: Ganjbasoda Dehat Police arrested 07 accused in an operation against betting. Assets worth approximately ₹2.11 lakh were seized, including ₹21,000 in cash, 01 motorcycle, 06 Android mobile phones, betting slips, and lead pens.
  • Umaria: Police raided a gambling den operating in Nimha village, arresting 07 accused. Assets worth over ₹1.62 lakh were seized, including ₹5,330 in cash, 07 mobile phones, and 02 two-wheeler vehicles.
  • Datia: Bhainder Police Station raided a gambling den on the Chirgaon-Bhander road in Bichhondana, arresting 07 gamblers and seizing ₹40,100 in cash. In a separate action, Indergarh Police Station arrested 04 accused for operating online betting, seizing 01 laptop, 06 mobile phones, and 01 register. Unao Police Station raided a gambling den near Khati Baba Temple, arresting 02 accused and seizing approximately ₹93,900, including ₹3,900 in cash. In total, assets worth ₹1.34 lakh were seized in Datia district.
  • Chhatarpur: Kotwali Police raided a gambling den in Badi Kunjrahti mohalla during night patrol, arresting 13 accused and seizing ₹1.27 lakh in cash.
  • Jhabua: Pitol Police Post arrested 06 accused, including the hotel operator, for gambling in a hotel. Assets worth approximately ₹81,700 were seized from the spot, including ₹26,700 in cash, 05 mobile phones, and a deck of cards. In another operation, police arrested 06 accused and seized ₹10,700 in cash, 03 mobile phones, and playing cards. Jhabua Police seized a total of ₹92,400 in assets.
  • Khandwa: Mandhata Police arrested 09 accused for gambling and seized ₹68,000 in cash. In Shivaji Nagar, Khandwa, 09 more accused were arrested for gambling, and ₹10,120 in cash was seized. A total of over ₹78,120 in cash was seized from both operations.
  • Other Districts: Similarly, Barwah Police in Khargone arrested 11 accused and seized ₹54,150 in cash; Indore Police seized ₹40,350 in cash; Morar Police Station in Gwalior arrested 11 gamblers and seized ₹52,700; Kotwali Police in Guna arrested 10 gamblers and seized ₹19,600; Ashoknagar Police arrested 15 gamblers and seized ₹37,800; Birlagram Police Station in Ujjain arrested 12 gamblers and seized ₹21,300; Sarni Police in Betul took action against 05 gamblers, seizing ₹10,610; Kotwali Police in Shivpuri seized ₹3,500; and Baidhan Police Station in Singrauli district arrested 02 accused, seizing ₹6,800 in cash from their possession.

Continued Action Against Illegal Activities

Madhya Pradesh Police are continuing their operations against illegal activities like gambling and betting. The primary objective of these actions is to effectively control these illegal businesses spreading in society and to prevent the economic and social ills they cause.

The police also appeal to the public to report such activities to the police so that immediate action can be taken against them.
