Madhya Pradesh Police Intensify Action Against Cattle Smuggling

The Cliff News | Bhopal | September 5, 2026 Madhya Pradesh Police have taken decisive action against the illegal smuggling and cruel transportation of cattle and other animals, as well as illegal slaughterhouses, over the past month. This campaign has resulted in the safe rescue of a total of 409 cattle and other animals across various districts of the state.

Vehicles used in these illegal activities have been seized, and legal action is being pursued against the involved culprits. The operations were particularly concentrated in the districts of Seoni, Khargone, Katni, and Burhanpur, where police responded swiftly and effectively based on intelligence. The objective is not only to protect animals from cruelty but also to curb the cattle smuggling rackets.

Major Operations Yield Significant Rescues and Arrests

In a significant operation in Katni district, the Niwar police rescued 354 animals being transported cruelly and without permits. Seven individuals were arrested in connection with the incident, and a 12-wheel Tata truck used for transporting the animals was confiscated. Cases have been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and the Motor Vehicles Act, with further investigation underway.

The Seoni Kotwali police tightened their grip on cattle smugglers by rescuing 23 cattle and 4 other animals en route from Sagar to Nagpur. Three suspects were arrested, and a container used for transport was seized. In a related action within the district, a raid on an illegally operating slaughterhouse led to the rescue of four cattle and the arrest of four individuals.

Further Crackdowns in Khargone and Burhanpur

Continuing its drive against illegal cattle smuggling, Khargone district police rescued a total of 14 cattle in various cases and seized two vehicles used in the smuggling operations. Meanwhile, the Burhanpur Kotwali police conducted an effective operation, freeing 14 cattle. Additionally, a truck worth approximately INR 2.80 lakh, used for illegal transportation, was impounded.

Madhya Pradesh Police are maintaining continuous surveillance against illegal animal transportation and smuggling and are committed to taking the strictest possible action according to the law. The public has also been urged to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station immediately, enabling timely intervention and necessary action.
