Madhya Pradesh Police Takes Major Action: Two Cyber Fraud Gangs Busted, Six Arrested

The Cliff News | Bhopal | August 18, 2026 Madhya Pradesh Police has taken effective action against an inter-state network of cyber fraudsters, arresting six accused in two separate cases. In Sehore, a call center defrauding investors through a fake trading app has been exposed, while in Katni, a gang that stole mobile phones and swindled ₹2.10 lakh from bank accounts has been apprehended. This action is a significant step towards curbing digital crimes in the state.

According to the police, these gangs lured victims with promises of high returns on investment or accessed their bank accounts by stealing mobile phones. Utilizing technical resources, cyber expertise, and inter-state coordination, the police successfully apprehended these fraudsters.

Millions Defrauded via Fake Trading App in Sehore

The Kotwali police in Sehore district have busted an organized gang defrauding people by promising huge profits through a fake trading app named 'FX Trade'. Acting on a complainant's report, a special team formed under the direction of Sehore Superintendent of Police, Mrs. Sonakshi Saxena, arrested three accused.

Investigation revealed that the main accused, Satish Mewada, had been operating a fake call center in Sheetall Bihar Colony, Sehore, for approximately six months. Employees at this call center would lure people into investing through the 'FX Trade' app by promising exceptionally high profits in the stock market and trading within a short period. So far, investigations have uncovered over ₹20 lakh in fraudulent investments. The ill-gotten money was being collected in shared accounts. The accused obtained bank accounts, ATM cards, passbooks, and SIM cards from individuals under the pretext of providing loans, and subsequently transferred the defrauded amounts to their own accounts, withdrawing cash via ATMs. Complaints against these accounts on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) from various states confirmed the inter-state operations of this network.

During the operation, the police seized five computer systems, one laptop, five keypad mobile phones, five smartphones, passbooks, checkbooks, 'FX Trade' ID cards, and SIM cards. The police are conducting a detailed investigation into other members of this network and the total amount defrauded.

₹2.10 Lakhs Defrauded by Stealing Mobile Phones in Katni

Meanwhile, the Bakal police station in Katni district has busted a gang that stole mobile phones to withdraw money from bank accounts, arresting three accused from Jharkhand. The incident came to light when the complainant's mobile phone was stolen from Bakal Bazaar. Subsequently, a total of ₹2.10 lakh was fraudulently withdrawn from the complainant's savings and KCC accounts on different dates. After a complaint was filed, a special team from Bakal police station initiated an investigation based on technical evidence.

The investigation revealed that the accused would steal mobile phones that were either unlocked or easily unlockable. Once they obtained a mobile phone, they would set up UPI pins and transfer funds from bank accounts to other accounts. During police interrogation, the accused admitted to stealing 14 mobile phones. The gang is also reported to have committed similar offenses in areas like Katni, Jabalpur, Sihora, and Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh. The investigation into other accused individuals and their criminal activities is ongoing.

Public Appeal and Cybersecurity Measures

Madhya Pradesh Police has appealed to the general public not to share their bank accounts, ATM cards, passbooks, checkbooks, or SIM cards linked to banks with any other person in exchange for commission, jobs, loans, or easy money. Additionally, people are urged to refrain from downloading any trading apps received from unknown links, WhatsApp, or Telegram, and to be cautious of investment proposals promising unusually high returns.

If anyone falls victim to cyber fraud, they should immediately call the national helpline number 1930 and register their complaint on www.cybercrime.gov.in.
