Madhav College Observes Partition Horrors Remembrance Day with Emotional Event

Commemoration of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day

On August 14th, 2026, Madhav College in Gwalior organized a heartfelt event to mark 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day'. The joint initiative by the National Service Scheme (NSS) and the National Cadet Corps (NCC) aimed to recall the immense tragedies, displacement, suffering, and human emotions associated with the 1947 partition of India.

Held as part of the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, the event sought to impart lessons from the bitter memories of history to students and strengthen national unity. Dr. Santosh Sharma, the chief speaker, highlighted the historical context of the 1947 partition, detailing the widespread violence, communal tension, and insecurity that forced millions to flee their homes.

Dr. Sharma vividly depicted the unimaginable human tragedy of the time, the extreme hardships faced by refugees, and their struggles to rebuild lives in new locations. He emphasized that the pain of partition should perpetually inspire unity, brotherhood, and national harmony.

Personal Accounts and Historical Context

During the event, Dr. Deepti Narang shared personal experiences of her family's journey from Multan and Shujabad to India. She recounted the numerous difficulties her ancestors encountered during their displacement.

Dr. Narang also noted how displaced families managed to re-establish their lives through hard work and resilience, even in adverse circumstances. She cited the examples of Shujabad Bhawan and Multan Bhawan in Gwalior, which were built by Punjabi families who had migrated from Pakistan.

Emphasis on National Harmony and Nation Building

The Principal of the college, Dr. Shiv Kumar Sharma, stated in his address that lessons from historical tragedies should be used to further strengthen unity, harmony, and national cohesion within society. He urged students to draw inspiration from past events and contribute to building a stronger nation.

A poignant video presentation effectively illustrated the horrors of the partition, deeply impacting the attending students. Dr. Kaushalendra Awasthi also addressed the students, advising them to learn from historical mistakes and remain vigilant against any misleading, anti-India ideologies or conspiracies.

The event was coordinated by NSS Program Officer Dr. Sarita Dixit, with the vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Kaushalendra Awasthi. Present on the dais were Principal Dr. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Dr. Santosh Sharma, and NSS Senior Program Officer Dr. Sanjay Kumar Pandey. NCC Officer Lieutenant Mulayam Singh played a key role in the event's coordination.

All faculty members and a large number of students from the college were in attendance. The event concluded with the collective singing of the national anthem and a minute of silence in remembrance of the martyrs. The program delivered a vital message to all attendees to learn from history and reinforce the nation's unity and integrity.
