Delhi Police Intensifies Action After Violent Protests

Delhi Police have launched stringent action following the violent clashes that erupted during the 'Let's Go to Parliament' protest held at Connaught Place in the capital on July 20, 2026. An agitated crowd resorted to stone-pelting targeting Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel and Delhi Police officers.

The attack resulted in injuries to several security personnel and damage to police vehicles. In connection with the incident, police have registered over 9 First Information Reports (FIRs) at the Connaught Place and Parliament Street police stations. These FIRs have been filed under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Arms Act, and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act (PDPP Act).

Security Forces Attacked, Property Damaged

According to Delhi Police officials, over 118 police and security personnel were injured in the violent incident. All injured personnel were immediately rushed to hospitals for treatment. Police stated that protestors attempted to break through barricades and began pelting stones at security forces, necessitating the deployment of additional forces to bring the situation under control.

Extensive Investigation Underway to Identify Perpetrators

The Delhi Police are conducting a comprehensive investigation to identify the individuals involved in the rioting. Over 250 video recordings obtained from CCTV cameras at and around the scene, drone footage, as well as media and social media, are being meticulously examined.

Officials stated that based on these videos, those involved in the violence will be identified, and steps will be taken for their arrest. Security has been significantly heightened in sensitive areas like Connaught Place, Parliament Street, and surrounding vicinities following the incident, with a heavy deployment of police and paramilitary forces. Security agencies are continuously monitoring the situation to prevent any untoward incidents and maintain law and order.

Delhi Police Reiterate Stance on Peaceful Protests

The Delhi Police have clarified that while peaceful protest is a right of every citizen, engaging in violence, damaging public property, and attacking security forces are entirely illegal. The police have assured that no one involved in the violence will be spared and strict legal action will be taken against all accused based on evidence.
