Eyewear giant Lenskart Solutions Ltd. is preparing for a public listing in Mumbai as soon as next month, targeting a valuation of $9 billion, according to sources familiar with the matter and calculations derived from the company’s IPO prospectus.
The IPO would mark a major milestone for Peyush Bansal, the 41-year-old entrepreneur and Indian television personality who co-founded the company over 15 years ago after connecting with his partners on LinkedIn. Post-IPO, Bansal is expected to retain a stake worth around $800 million, with potential to surpass $1 billion if shares rise roughly 25% on debut, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
From Startup to Industry Leader
Lenskart has grown from a modest startup into a multi-billion-dollar business by combining high-tech manufacturing with consumer convenience. The company produces eyewear using robotic production lines imported from Germany, ensuring precision at scale, while its e-commerce platform allows customers to virtually try on glasses and place orders online, creating a seamless omni-channel experience.
Industry analysts say the IPO demonstrates a renewed investor appetite for founder-led ventures in India, after a challenging period where many startups struggled with tightening funding and market uncertainty. Lenskart’s ability to carve a niche in both manufacturing and digital retail has positioned it as one of India’s most compelling tech-enabled consumer businesses.
Investor Confidence Returns
The upcoming listing is seen as a litmus test for the country’s startups returning to the public markets, especially in sectors like consumer goods and e-commerce. Experts note that a successful IPO could boost confidence for other founder-led companies seeking capital infusion while retaining operational control.
