Kunal Kemmu directs mother-in-law Sharmila Tagore in 'Vibe'

Filmmaker Kunal Kemmu has revealed the personal significance of having veteran actor Sharmila Tagore, his mother-in-law, make a cameo appearance in his upcoming directorial venture, 'Vibe'. The film, which marks Kemmu's second directorial project after 'Madgaon Express', also features Preity Zinta, Sparsh Shrivastava, and debutante Vanshika Dhir in prominent roles.

The trailer launch for the comedy film took place in Mumbai on Wednesday, where Kemmu shared insights into how Tagore became a part of the project. He admitted that he initially approached her without any guarantee of her acceptance.

Securing a Legendary Cameo

When asked if Sharmila Tagore's involvement was always planned, Kemmu explained that he extended an invitation for a cameo role. Tagore's response was characteristic, as she requested the film's synopsis.

“I asked her if she would play this part, which was a cameo, and she said, ‘Can I get the synopsis of the film?’ So, I gave her the synopsis, and she said that was just a trick question, I was anyway going to do it. So, she was gracious enough,” Kemmu shared.

This interaction highlights Tagore's supportive nature and Kemmu's own anticipation for her potential involvement.

For Kunal Kemmu, the opportunity to direct Sharmila Tagore transcended merely adding a renowned actress to his cast. He described it as a significant personal achievement, something he had not been certain would ever materialize.

“For me, it’s one of those checkboxes that I got to tick, something I never knew I would be able to. I am very happy, and I am very proud that I could call ‘action’ and ‘cut’ on a legend like her,” he stated.
