Pipeline Leakage Disrupts Water Supply

A significant leakage in the 1650 mm diameter main gravity pipeline of the Kolar Water Supply Project has severely impacted potable water availability in over 75 areas of the capital. This critical infrastructure, considered the lifeline of Bhopal, is undergoing necessary maintenance, leaving lakhs of residents struggling for even a drop of water.

The Kolar Water Supply Project caters to a substantial portion of the city's water needs. Consequently, any technical malfunction or leakage in the main pipeline directly affects a vast population. Water supply has been cut off in numerous parts of the city, including prominent residential areas like Shahjahanabad, Arera Colony, Trilanga, Shahpura, Chuna Bhatti, and Kolar Basti.

Repair Work Underway on Main Pipeline

Following the detection of the leakage in the 1650 mm main gravity pipeline, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation's water supply department has been engaged in intensive repair and restoration work. This pipeline is a crucial component of the city's water distribution system, ensuring supply to most areas.

The situation is expected to normalize only after the completion of the repair and essential technical work on the pipeline. Authorities are working around the clock to expedite the process and minimize inconvenience to residents.

Tanker Supply as Alternative Arrangement

In response to the escalating water crisis, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation has arranged for water supply via tankers to the affected areas as an immediate alternative. Corporation officials are dispatching tankers as per the requirement in these localities, ensuring residents have access to drinking water and water for other domestic uses.

However, due to the widespread disruption affecting such a large area, many localities are still facing a wait for regular water supply. The Municipal Corporation has appealed to citizens to use water judiciously and avoid wastage, thereby ensuring that available water resources benefit the maximum number of people.

Supply to Normalize Post-Repair

Sources within the Municipal Corporation indicate that water supply in the affected areas will gradually return to normal once the leakage and maintenance work on the main pipeline are completed. Despite the significant technical work undertaken on the main line, it may take some time for supply to reach the tail-end areas even after water flow is restored.

The Corporation's teams are continuously monitoring the situation and striving to restore normal supply as swiftly as possible. Efforts are being made to ensure a smooth transition back to regular water distribution.
