Khusbu Sundar Calls Vijay Rally Stampede a “Planned Incident,” Slams DMK and MK Stalin for Negligence

Days after the tragic stampede at actor-turned-politician Vijay’s rally in Tamil Nadu’s Karur that claimed 41 lives and injured over 60 people, BJP leader Khusbu Sundar has termed the incident “planned” and “created.” She accused the DMK government and Chief Minister MK Stalin of negligence and of failing to provide adequate space for the event.

“The entire people of Tamil Nadu believe that there was complete negligence. It seems like it was a created calamity because DMK knew the kind of crowd Vijay was going to attract — despite that, they did not give him proper space to hold the rally. MK Stalin is in mute mode now and not answering questions. Forty-one people died. He should speak now; someone needs to unmute him,” Sundar said.

The deadly incident occurred on September 27 during Vijay’s rally in Karur. According to eyewitnesses, a power outage, crowd surge, and narrow venue space led to chaos. The actor-turned-politician, who was expected to arrive at 12 pm, reached around 7 pm, by which time the crowd had swelled significantly.

Eyewitnesses reported that Vijay’s campaign bus triggered another rush when it entered the venue. Many climbed trees, rooftops, and power poles to get a glimpse of him, forcing authorities to cut electricity to prevent electrocution. As Vijay appeared, people pushed forward, and some began throwing slippers toward his bus to attract attention, leading to panic and several people fainting.

Police resorted to a lathi charge to control the situation, which reportedly worsened the chaos. Questioning this move, Sundar said, “Why did the police use a lathi charge? Many videos have now emerged. It must be a planned and created incident.”

Meanwhile, some Opposition leaders have labelled Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) as the “B-team” of the BJP. Responding to this, senior BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan said, “I don’t know about ‘A-team’ or ‘B-team’. There can be an ‘A to Z team’. BJP is happy — we are the ‘P-team’, the people’s team.”

Sources revealed that the BJP has reached out to Vijay’s party after the incident, hinting at a growing political understanding. The saffron party reportedly conveyed to TVK that Vijay would not be left alone if unfairly targeted by the DMK, advising him to remain patient. BJP insiders said the party hopes to leverage Vijay’s massive fan base ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections to strengthen its political presence in the state.
