Students Demand Education Minister's Resignation, Not Fast-Track Courts: Kejriwal

New Delhi | July 24, 2026 | Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal has termed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement to establish fast-track courts for hearing cases related to exam paper leaks as a move to divert attention from students' genuine demands.

He stated that students are not seeking fast-track courts but rather the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Prime Minister Modi had recently declared that fast-track courts would be set up for the speedy resolution of paper leak cases.

Reacting to this announcement, Kejriwal remarked that fast-track courts already exist in the country for serious crimes like POCSO and rape, yet many cases there do not proceed at the expected pace. He believes that merely making a new announcement will not resolve the irregularities plaguing the examination system or the growing anger among students.

Focus on Students' Core Demand

Kejriwal alleged that the Prime Minister's announcement aims to shift focus from the core issue concerning the students. According to him, students across the country have been protesting for a long time over alleged paper leaks and irregularities in various competitive exams, including the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).

The primary demand of these students is to fix the accountability of the Union Education Minister and secure his resignation. Kejriwal asserted that the government should take concrete and accountable actions instead of symbolic announcements in such a serious matter concerning students' futures.

Attempt to Suppress the Movement

He also accused the government of attempting to suppress the student movement rather than listening to their voices. Kejriwal raised the issue of alleged use of force and lathi-charge on students during protests in Delhi.

He claimed to have personally met with injured students and listened to their problems. Kejriwal appealed to the government to establish a dialogue with the students, seriously consider their demands, and take effective steps to ensure transparency and accountability in the examination system.

Student Protests Continue

Meanwhile, student protests continue in various parts of the country over alleged irregularities in NEET and other competitive examinations. Protesters are demanding impartial investigations, strict action against culprits, and comprehensive reforms in the examination system.

The government has announced the establishment of fast-track courts for swift resolution of cases and stringent action against those involved in paper leaks, while the opposition deems this step insufficient and insists on fixing accountability.
