Kanwar Yatra Tragedy: Woman Killed, Dozens Injured After Roadways Bus Collides with Tractor-Trolley in Farrukhabad

Road Accident Claims Life During Kanwar Yatra in Farrukhabad

A severe road accident occurred early Sunday morning, August 16, 2026, near the Ramganga Bridge in the Allaganj police station area of Farrukhabad, on the Etawah-Bareilly National Highway. A roadways bus traveling towards Farrukhabad lost control and collided head-on with a tractor-trolley coming from the opposite direction.

The collision resulted in injuries to approximately a dozen Kanwar pilgrims traveling on the tractor-trolley. Tragically, a woman Kanwar pilgrim from Lakhimpur Kheri died at the scene. According to initial reports, around 70 Kanwar pilgrims from Jatpura village, Mailani police station area in Lakhimpur Kheri district, were en route to Panchal Ghat on the Ganga river to collect holy water, traveling in two tractor-trolleys.

Devastating Collision Near Ramganga Bridge

As they approached the Ramganga Bridge in Shahjahanpur district, a speeding roadways bus, allegedly coming from the wrong side, struck one of the tractor-trolleys with immense force. The impact was so severe that screams and chaos erupted at the site. The injured were immediately rushed for medical attention.

Upon receiving information about the accident, the Allaganj police station reached the spot. The police transported all the injured individuals to the Rajpur Community Health Center in Farrukhabad. Medical personnel at the center pronounced Manju Devi, a resident of Jatpura village (approximately 70 years old), dead.

Injured Transferred for Further Treatment

Several other Kanwar pilgrims sustained serious injuries and, after receiving initial first aid, were referred to Lohia Hospital for further treatment, where they are currently undergoing medical care. Among the injured pilgrims are Guddi Devi (40), Meera Devi (32), Shri Krishna (70), Nema Devi (20), Nirmala Devi (42), Kanishk (10), Krishna (7), Poonam (20), and Yash Kumar (8).

Allegations of Negligent Driving

Some passengers stated that the roadways bus driver was driving negligently, overtaking from the wrong side, which led to the collision. Several pilgrims were asleep in the trolley and sustained severe injuries due to the sudden impact.

Police Launch Investigation

Allaganj Station House Officer, Om Prakash, confirmed that the accident occurred when the roadways bus hit the tractor-trolley. He added that three to four individuals with minor injuries were admitted to the hospital. The police are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident and questioning the bus driver. The probe is ongoing to ascertain the exact causes of the accident.

This unfortunate event raises serious concerns about the safety of devotees participating in the Kanwar Yatra.
