Kane Williamson Joins Lucknow Super Giants as Strategic Advisor Ahead of IPL 2026

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have added New Zealand batting maestro Kane Williamson to their backroom team as a strategic advisor for the upcoming IPL season. Williamson, who played for the Sanjeev Goenka-owned Durban Super Giants in the recent SA20 league, brings a wealth of international and IPL experience to the franchise.

A Global T20 Career with Strategic Insights

Williamson, one of five New Zealand cricketers to decline central contracts to participate in global T20 leagues, has not retired from international cricket. He remains committed to representing New Zealand in next year’s T20 World Cup, ensuring his insights are grounded in current, high-level competition.

His IPL journey spans 10 seasons from 2015 to 2024, featuring a prolific tenure with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), where he won the orange cap in 2018 with 735 runs. After captaining SRH until 2022, Williamson joined Gujarat Titans in 2023 but was limited to a single game due to injury. In 2024, he appeared in just two matches, and during the IPL 2025 mega auction, he went unsold.

Strengthening LSG’s Backroom Team

Williamson joins a reshaped LSG support staff, including Bharat Arun, who has taken over as bowling coach after four years with Kolkata Knight Riders. The combination of Williamson’s batting acumen and Arun’s coaching experience is expected to bolster LSG’s strategic planning and on-field performance.

With his global experience and IPL pedigree, Williamson is expected to mentor LSG’s top-order batsmen and contribute to tactical decisions during matches, enhancing the team’s competitive edge.
