Jyothi Surekha Vennam Makes History with Bronze at Archery World Cup Final

Indian compound archer Jyothi Surekha Vennam created history on Saturday by becoming the first Indian woman to win a medal at the World Cup Final, clinching bronze in Nanjing, China.

The world No. 3 finished her season in style, shooting 15 perfect 10s to defeat Great Britain’s Ella Gibson 150-145 in the bronze-medal match.

Vennam, 29, began her campaign with a confident quarterfinal win over Alexis Ruiz (USA) 143-140 but narrowly lost the semifinal to world No. 1 Andrea Becerra of Mexico 143-145, after leading 87-86 midway.

This podium finish marks Jyothi’s 88th career medal and her first World Cup Final medal in three appearances, following early exits in Tlaxcala (2022) and Hermosillo (2023).

India narrowly missed a second medal as Rishabh Yadav lost the men’s bronze playoff to former world champion Mike Schloesser (Netherlands) in a shoot-off after a 147-147 tie.
