Junior Engineer Caught Accepting Bribe

Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh | August 19, 2026 – A Junior Engineer (JE) from the electricity department in Farrukhabad was arrested on Wednesday afternoon while accepting a bribe. JE Ajit Rajput, posted at the Gugoura electricity sub-centre, was caught red-handed by a vigilance team accepting Rs 10,000 from a female consumer in exchange for an electricity connection. The incident has caused a stir within the electricity department.

It is reported that JE Ajit Rajput had demanded Rs 10,000 from the woman consumer for sanctioning a domestic electricity connection. Acting on a complaint filed regarding this matter, the vigilance team first investigated and, upon verifying the complaint's authenticity, laid a trap and arrested the JE while he was accepting the bribe money on Wednesday.

Allegations of Long-Standing Bribery

Local consumers have accused JE Ajit Rajput of demanding bribes for a prolonged period. Allegations suggest that the JE sought illegal facilitation fees not only for domestic electricity connections but also for tasks such as installing transformers without estimates and shifting electricity lines. Sources indicate that whenever such complaints surfaced, JE Ajit Rajput would reportedly attempt to dismiss the issue by claiming action would be taken against linemen.

Consumers, frustrated by this pattern of bribery, have expressed widespread discontent with the departmental system. The ongoing bribery practices have created significant dissatisfaction among the public.

Vigilance Team Investigating Further Complaints

Following this action by the vigilance team, other officials and employees of the electricity department have become alert. Legal proceedings are being initiated against JE Ajit Rajput. The vigilance team is conducting a thorough investigation into other complaints, in addition to the bribery allegations, to expose the entire racket.
